Oakland celebrated nations’s birthday a little early

June 27 was Oakland’s July 4th Fireworks Celebration. The weather cooperated and participants were treated to a concert by The Shot Gun Billys (above) along with a fireworks show by Hi-Tech Special Effects.

“I want to personally thank those who helped keep the many event-goers safe, including Oakland Police Chief Earl, Captain Gaines, the entire Oakland Police Department, their reserve officers, the Senior Patrol, the CERT volunteers, Chief Walls, the Oakland Fire Department, their reserves, as well as the Fayette County Fire Department,” said Neal Halvorson, director of Oakland Parks and Recreation Department. “I couldn’t have pulled this off alone. I appreciate all the help and support from everyone involved with this year’s event! I’m already looking forward to next year.”
