A Community Shred-It Day was held on Saturday to celebrate Earth Day. The event was sponsored by the Oakland Parks and Recreation Department and the Oakland Beautification Board. Food donations were collected and given to Feeding Fayette Food Bank. Neal Halvorson, director of Parks and Recreation, the event “not only provided citizens with an opportunity to safely dispose of their personal information and documents, but it was a fitting way to participate in celebrating Earth Day by recycling, reducing and reusing.” Call 465-2921 for more information about the Oakland Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department.
