County Spelling Bee winners

Students from the Fayette County School District competed Jan. 15 in the gymnatorium of Buckley-Carpenter Elementary for the opportunity to win the District Wide Spelling Bee. The spelling bee comprised of 16 students from Central Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, LaGrange-Moscow Elementary, Southwest Elementary, Oakland Elementary, East Junior High, West Junior High and Fayette Academy. Seventh grader Dunstan Ashe, representing Fayette Academy won with “bambino.” Fifth-grader Dalton Matthews, representing Jefferson Elementary, was the runner-up. Both will move up to compete at the Mid-South Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Commercial Appeal. It will be held at 9 a.m. on March 7 at the Al Chymia Shrine Center in Memphis. Also participating were Luke Krepela, Vontavious Porter, Dalton Matthews, Glentavious Jones, Taylor Briggs, Mekia Henderson, Gibson Singer, Haley Davis, Christian Kelly, Zoe Crutcher, Katie Ayala, Davona Walker, Ainsley Feeney, Lawrencia Grose, Dunstan Ashe and Kaci Gilliom.
