Terry Leggett
• Current occupation: Retired, incumbent County Commissioner
• Age: 67
• Education: Memphis State University, FBI National Academy, Upper level courses at the University of Virginia
• Family: Wife, Sandi, two adult daughters, four grandchildren
• List three significant issues in this election.
A. Improving Public Education in Fayette County
B. Improving Healthcare in Fayette County
C. Economic Development / Job opportunities
• Specifically, how do you plan to deal with each of these issues, if elected?
A. Maintain focus on public education to see that we are getting good results for the millions of tax dollars being spent.
B. As chairman of the Health & Wellfair Committee we must work with major hospitals to insure that we maintain a hospital with an emergency room in our county so that we don’t have to go all the way to Memphis for urgent care.
C. Jobs and economic development will not be realized until we have good educational opportunities for our children.
• What do you think is the biggest concern facing Fayette County at this time, and why?
Education is by far the greatest impediment to the future of Fayette County. We as a county can not look forward to the amenities, such as parks, theaters, nationally-known restaurants and jobs, without a good educational system.
• What specifically makes you best qualified for the position you are seeking?
I am the best candidate for my seat on the County Commission because:
EXPERIENCE – I have worked in county government (Shelby County) for 44 years and know what poor leadership looks like and how it will destroy a community.
RECORD – I have worked hard this past four years to be the conservative voice of my neighbors, standing up for those values that reflect the values of the community that elected me in 2010 to represent them.
I sincerely hope that my community is pleased with my efforts, and will allow me another term to be their voice on the County Commission.
