Little Free Library

The Oakland Chamber of Commerce helped the West Fayette Friends of the Library celebrate the opening of their first Little Free Library – Charter No. 10400 on June 30. The library, sponsored by Oakland, is located in front of City Hall. Little Free Libraries are popping up all over the country – and even as far away as Germany, Ghana and Afghanistan. They house books that anyone can browse, borrow or keep for free. There’s no recordkeeping and no obligation to return the books – ever. No library cards are required. There are no fines. Little Free Libraries are designed to promote literacy and the love of reading through free book exchanges. Each Little Free Library has a sign that says “Take a Book, Leave a Book,” though it’s not a requirement to do either. Two more Little Free Libraries will open soon, one in Oakland and another in Rossville. Those interested in sponsoring a library, contact the West Fayette Friends of the Library by leaving a message on facebook.com/WestFayetteFriendsoftheLibrary.
